The purpose of the present invention is to provide a projector which makes it possible to exchange a transmitting member for transmitting light, as necessary, and to decrease the size of the light-transmitting member. The projector is equipped with a light valve, a projection unit, and an exchange mechanism. The light valve modulates light. The projection unit projects light. The exchange mechanism holds the transmitting member, which is positioned along the optical path between the light valve and the projection unit, and is capable of exchanging the transmitting member.
