[Also in Division B8] In a plant for making bags a tube-making machine feeds tube-sections 4 to a device 7, Fig. 1, for forming stacks from the tube-sections, the stacks then being conveyed on rolls 9, 10 to compacting belts 11, 12, and transferred by means 15, 16, 17 to a storage device that receives the stacks 8 and delivers them to a distributing station 19, Fig. 4 (which serves two or more end-forming machines) automatically and independently of a delivery speed and timing of the stack-forming device. As shown, the tube-sections 4 are fed in predetermined numbers to upper and lower retarding belts 2, 3 which shingle the tube-sections 4 prior to stacking at a pivoted stop 7. A predetermined number of the stacks 8 are transferred from the compacting belts to collecting tables 15, 16 which are pivotally mounted in a slanted receiving position, Fig. 1. After the transfer, the collecting table is moved into a horizontal plane and then through 90 degrees so that the initially longitudinally disposed tube-sections are delivered to the end-forming machines in a transverse orientation. Stack from table 15 is deposited on a previously deposited stack from table 16 to form a double stack. The stacks 8 are transferred to the storage device 18 which may consist of conveyer belts A, B, C, D, and E, Fig. 5, arranged one behind the other and operable independently of one another by command signals from photoelectric sensing devices situated at the transfer points between the belts. The last conveyer is also operated in response to command signals from the distributing station 19. The distributing device selectively feeds the stacks 8 at right-angles to their original direction of travel into the range of transfer rakes which carry the stacks 8 to endforming machines. Bags leaving the end-forming machines are inspected, shingled, stacked, and compacted, and resultant stacks pass by upper and lower belt systems 30, 31 to a pivotally movable belt 32, Fig. 1, and a table 33 for transfer to a delivery conveyer 34. A device is described for changing the direction of travel of the stacks 8. It may form the distribution station and/or a sampling station 13, Fig. 1, for laterally removing selected stacks 8 from the conveyer track. The device may consist of a plurality of parallel revolving endless conveyers (preferably V-belts) which extend through spaces between parallel, driven rollers, the rollers and the endless conveyers being vertically adjustable relative to each other, Figs. 6, 7 (not shown), in such a manner that the supporting surface for the stacks is selectively formed either by the rollers or by the conveyers. The conveyer track 17 may extend substantially at right-angles to the conveyer track 1-13, Fig. 1, in which case the collecting tables 15, 16 need not be rotated through 90 degrees prior to depositing their loads of stacks 8.
