A metallurgical vessel (1) has a heated tapping siphon tube (10) with an overflow edge (14) located above the tube inlet upper edge in the vessel operating position. A metallurgical vessel (1) has a tapping siphon (5) in the form of a refractory lined tapping tube (10) of inverted U or V shape, the first arm (11) of which has an inlet opening with an upper edge, and the second arm (12) of which has a lower lying metal outlet opening which can be closed by a closure device (19), a metal overflow edge (14) being defined within the tube at the connection region (13) of the two arms (11, 12). The novelty is that: (a) the first arm (11) extends through the vessel wall (15); (b) the overflow edge height (h2) is greater than the height (h0) of the upper edge of the tube inlet opening in the vessel operating position; and (c) at least part of the tube (10) or the metal melt (3) within the tube is heated by a heating system (24, 25). An Independent claim is also included for a method of controlled slag-free molten metal tapping from the above metallurgical vessel. |
