A fluid shear coupling comprises interdigitated ridges and grooves (18. 19. 22. 23) of a rotor (11) on a shaft (12) and of a plate (21) fixed to a bearing housing (15) and a cover (16) secured together by a metal band (17). The plate (21), cover (16), bearing housing (15) and rotor (11) are preferably as-cast structures of magnesium or a magnesium alloy. |
