METALLIC FIBER FELT-LIKE BODY AND PRODUCTION THEREOF

PURPOSE:To obtain the title felt-like body having high break strength and formability, capable of having high porosity and useful as a material for electric cell and electrode by preparing a felt-like body using a core material fiber, forming a specific coating layer and binding the felt-like body to coating layer by a binding part. CONSTITUTION:A felt-like body using a core material fiber 10 is prepared and a coating layer 12 having prescribed thickness and using a metallic material is formed on the peripheral face of the core material fiber 10 of the felt-like body to afford a metallic fiber 2 in which the core material fiber 10 is covered by the coating layer 12. Then the metallic fibers 2 are bound by a binding part 3 in which the above-mentioned metallic material ranges to provide the aimed felt-like body. In the aimed felt-like body, the metallic fiber 2 being <=50mum in average diameter D which is average of maximum diameter and minimum diameter and having substantially smooth peripheral face is bound by the binding part 3 consisting of the same metallic material as the above- mentioned metallic fiber 2 and having smoothly curved recessed arc-like outer face and simultaneously length of the binding part 3 is >=0.7 times average diameter D of the above-mentioned metallic fiber 2.
