An exchange (VE) has a reversing coupler with a number of stages (KS1,2) and associated coupling multiples (KV11-18; KV21-24). For the transmission of information signal cells over coupling lines between the individual coupling multiples is provided a flow control. Between two interconnected coupling multiples are exchanged two report signals. Thus the ready state for the reception of the information signal cells, or no such state, is indicated. The two report signals are transmitted by inverting, or non-inverting, of the data stream on the respective coupling line.
