<p>The system comprises a fuel tank 1, a reservoir 8 for fuel, a fuel pump 9, a change-over valve 11 to which the tank, the reservoir and the pump are connected, fuel metering equipment 2, a feed duct 4 for feeding of fuel from the pump to the metering equipment, a return duct 5 or a throttled branch duct from the pump outlet for filling of the reservoir, and a unit 6 for controlling the pump, the motoring equipment and the change-over valve. The control unit 6 is arranged to switch the changeover valve 11 when the engine 3 is cold so that fuel is pumped by the pump 9 out of the reservoir 8 into the feed duct 4 and to switch the valve when the engine is warm so that the pump conveys fuel out of the tank 1 into the feed duct. The use of the reservoir 8 when the engine is cold ensures that the same fuel is used for starting as was used when the engine was last operating in the warm state. This ensures that the equipment 2 is set for the fuel in use at starting regardless of refilling of the tank 1. <IMAGE></p> |
