PURPOSE:To enable the plasma-initiated graft polymn. onto the surface of any desired polymer material by putting a polymer capable of undergoing plasma- initiated graft polymn. on the surface of the material, exposing the surface to plasma, and supplying a radical-polymerizable monomer to the surface. CONSTITUTION:A polymer capable of undergoing plasma-initiated graft polymn. is put on the surface of a polymer material. The surface is exposed to plasma, and during or after the exposure, a radical-polymerizable monomer is supplied to the surface to modify it. The modification is most effectively carried out when the material contains no tertiary carbon atom. Suitable selection of the monomer enables the formation of a biocompatible surface which exerts no detrimental effect, such as tissue adhesion due to reaction with a foreign matter, tissue disorders thrombus, etc., on a living body. As the material can also be given satisfactory mechanical strengths, it is suitable for a medical tool, esp. for a catheter, a balloon catheter, etc. |
