PURPOSE:To use the external character file of a host computer from a personal computer by providing a code conversion part on the side of the personal computer. CONSTITUTION:A personal computer 10 is connected to a host computer 1 by a communication line 4. A virtual terminal processing part 6 provided at the personal computer 10 exchanges data such as output data or key input data with the host computer 1 so as to perform processing similar to a standard terminal. in this case, a code conversion part 5 provided in the virtual terminal processing part 6 performs the conversion of a code so as to recognize the respective OS of the host computer 1 and the personal computer 10 at the time of retrieving the existence of relevant data in an external character file 3 of the host computer 1 when the relevant data are not existent after the retrieval of a dictionary file 7 at the time of input data conversion. |
