The invention relates to a method for eliminating noxious matter present in low concentration from exhaust gases, in particular chlorinated hydrocarbons and, optionally, heavy metals. The exhaust gas (A) is passed through a moving bed (2, 3) travelling from the top downwards and made of a coarse grained base material (T), and the base material in the moving bed is coated with a carbon-containing sorbent dust (S). A simple coating of the base material is obtained.
