An article of manufacture (18), such as a microplate or cuvette (20), for screening liquids and/or biological substances and compounds at very low UV radiation, i.e., as low as about 190 nm. The devices of the invention (18) may be integrally formed from a UV transparent material or may comprise a rigid body fitted with a UV transparent liner. Methods for making the devices (18) of the invention are also disclosed.
