PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an instrument for measuring hardness capable of obtaining an accurate measured value even when the instrument for measuring the hardness is inclined for the measurement, in the measurement of the hardness in a rubber roller or the like having a cylindrical face. SOLUTION: This instrument for measuring the hardness is provided with: a hardness measuring head for measuring the hardness of a measuring object, based on a displacement amount of a probe when a surface of the measuring object is conformed with a reference face of the hardness measuring head by applying pressure; a moving means for moving the hardness measuring head between a measuring position and a stand-by position; a pressurizing level detecting means for detecting a pressurizing level for pressurizing the hardness measuring head in the measuring position by the moving means; an inclination detecting means for detecting an inclination angle of the hardness measuring head; an actual pressurized level computing means for inputting the inclination angle and the pressurizing level to compute an actual pressurizing level; a control computation means for computing a control input to bring the actual pressurizing level into a target pressurizing level, and a moving amount operation means for inputting the control input to operate the moving amount in the moving means.
