PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of quantitative determination of an impurity in a carbon nanotube. SOLUTION: This method includes processes of: (a) determining quantitatively the total amount of an intertube layered graphite and the carbon nanotube, and the total amount of a macrocrystal graphite and a catalyst surface layered graphite, by thermogravimetric analysis, (b) finding a quantity ratio of the intertube layered graphite to the carbon nanotube, based on a lattice image by a transmission electron microscope, and for multiplying it with a correction factor to calculate an actual carbon number ratio thereof, (c) finding a content ratio of the macrocrystal graphite to the catalyst surface layered graphite, by X-ray diffraction, (d) determining contents of the intertube layered graphite, the macrocrystal graphite and the catalyst surface layered graphite, based on the processes (a)-(c); and (e) determining quantitatively a catalyst amount in a carbon nanotube sample.
