The working surface, or a region adjacent the working surface, of the abrasive compact is contacted with a halogen gas or a gaseous environment containing a source of halide ions, preferably at a temperature at or below 800° C., in order to remove catalysing material and any foreign metal matrix material from the region adjacent the working surface.</p> |
