Method of manufacture of an insulator (1), particularly for reducing the thermal bridge effect between two connected building elements, the method comprising the steps (a) foaming a polymer composition containing one or more thermoplastic polymers, one or more foaming agents and 0.01 to 6% by weight of low emissivity metallic particles so as to form a raw insulator, (b) heating one or more region(s) of the raw insulator, (c) local surface densification of the foam of the heated region or regions of the raw insulator by applying a pressure so as to form an insulator with densified region(s) on the surface, and (d) cooling the insulator resulting from step (c) to ambient temperature. Insulator thus obtained and use thereof, particularly for insulating the connection between profiled sections for constructing glazings, panels and facings. |
