PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light emitting element that achieves high output.SOLUTION: A light emitting element includes an island (mesa) M formed on a semiconductor substrate 20, and the island has a light emitting thyristor including a semiconductor layer of a pnpn structure formed thereon. A current constriction layer 30 is formed in a p-type anode layer 22 between the semiconductor substrate 20 and an n-type gate layer 24. The density of a carrier in a first anode layer 22A on the substrate side in contact with the current constriction layer 30 is larger than the density of a carrier in a second anode layer 22B on the n-type gate layer 24 side in contact with the current constriction layer 30.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
