PURPOSE: A method for installing a peripheral device is provided to install a driver, which is the same version as a loaded Windows, regardless of a version of the Microsoft Windows in the case that new peripheral device is mounted in a computer which is loaded by the Microsoft Windows. CONSTITUTION: If a device is mounted in a PCI slot, a PNP(Plug and Play) is canceled(S16), a path of the current driver is designated(S17), and an installation is ordered(S18), an automatically installing file stored in the driver is executed(S20), version information of the operating system is collected from a kernel of the computer(S22), and an INF file of a driver corresponded to the collected version of the operating system is executed(S24). A related file stored in the driver is copied in a predetermined directory of a hard disk of the computer using information stored in the INF file. If a file is required for being changed the name thereof in a temporary file(S26), the file is copied in the temporary file(S28). In addition, binding information and file information stored in the temporary file are recorded in a registry of the computer(S30) and the computer is booted. A binding is performed by a PNP function, which is performed in a booting process, a name of the file stored in the temporary file is changed into a proper file name, and the file is copied in a predetermined directory of the hard disk. Continuously, the temporary file is deleted and the installing is completed.
