PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make possible, when a company or a group of companies is operating businesses of selling merchandise in a plurality of business categories, management of merchandise and sales performance in merchandise classifications each suitable for one business category or another.SOLUTION: A merchandise management system 10 to be used by a company or a group of companies for managing information on merchandise classification comprises a merchandise classification master 13 that individually holds for each business category definition information pertaining to a hierarchical structure regarding the merchandise classifying system in totaling sales performance records 22 of merchandise, and a merchandise master 12 that holds definition information of merchandise including information on a merchandise classification to which each merchandise item belongs. The system acquires and outputs, regarding information on a designated business category and merchandise item, information on the merchandise classification to which the pertinent merchandise item belongs in the pertinent business category and information on the hierarchical structure regarding the merchandise classifying system in the pertinent business category pertaining to the pertinent merchandise classification from the merchandise master 12 and the merchandise classification master 13. |
