The unit has several input and output components (K1-n) on a common circuit board (P2), which has, at least at one side, plug connectors with axes orthogonal to the circuit board plane. The plug connectors serve for linking directly to an adjacent circuit board for input and output components. The circuit board is pref. fitted with plug connectors (SV1-SV7) on both sides for direct coupling to two adjacent circuit boards (P1,P3) for input and output components. The plug connectors are in the same positions on both sides. The input and output components are typically of opto-electric type.
