PURPOSE: A peak detector is provided, which outputs a peak value free of pulsation without a time delay of an output signal, and prevents a distortion from being generated in the output by an accurate amplitude information while driving a controller. CONSTITUTION: The peak detector(100) detects amplitude information of a variable input. The first scaling circuit(110) scales an input signal to a half, and a phase shift circuit(120) generates a signal by delaying 90 degree of a phase of a signal being output through the first scaling circuit. The first multiplier circuit(130) squares a signal being output from the phase shift circuit. The second multiplier circuit(140) squares a signal being output through the first scaling circuit. An addition circuit(150) adds signals being output through the first and the second multiplier circuit. A square root circuit(160) makes a square root of a signal being output through the addition circuit. And the second scaling circuit(170) performs a double scaling of a signal being output through the square root circuit.
