Described are ADAM 12 proteins, species variants, homologues, allelic forms, mutant forms, derivatives, muteins and equivalents thereof, and various individual domains of ADAM 12 proteins, various domain combinations, inhibitors thereof and various forms of therapy, diagnosis and prophylaxis based thereon. Various therapeutic, diagnostic and prophylatic applications of proteins of the ADAM (reprolysin) family in general, as well as their individual domains, domain combinations, inhibitors and other materials based thereon, are also described.
