PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce a memory capacity required to store an image and to realize high accuracy re-recognition processing. SOLUTION: In the image processing unit 2 to recognize a manufacture code printed on an object, when an image processing section 6 extracts a type and a position of a character on an input image, a control section 7 extracts image data in an image area including the character as it is to generate a detailed image file. Simultaneously the control section 7 uses an image companding section 8 to apply compression processing to the input image to a prescribed size thereby generating an outline image file. A file name using a number denoting the image pickup sequence of the object is given to both the image files and the result is stored in a memory 9. |
