PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject new compound usable for modifying phospholipids for the purpose of e.g. extending their residence time in vivo as well as for diminishing the antigenicity of compounds or medicaments, and affording low-toxic fat emulsions and liposome concomitant with slight byproduct formation using modified phospholipids. SOLUTION: This new compound is shown by formula I [R1 is H, a 1-24C hydrocarbon or the like; R2 is a 3-4C hydrocarbon; R3 is a 1-10C hydrocarbon; AO is a 3-4C oxyalkylene; (n) is an average addition number of moles of oxyethylene groups, being 1-1,000; (m) is an average addition number of moles of the above-mentioned oxyalkylene groups, being 0-250; n/(n+m) is >=0.8], e.g. a compound of formula II. The compound of formula I is obtained by charging a reaction vessel with a compound of formula III followed by nitrogen gas replacement and then pressing ethylene oxide or the like singly at 100-140 deg.C into the reaction vessel to carry out a reaction.
