An air bag triggering device (1) for a vehicle is provided. The air bag triggering device comprises a housing (10) having a gas container (14); a valve device (40) for controlling gas from the gas container to flow into an air bag; a cylindrical guide portion (12) formed inside the housing (10) above the valve device (40); a slider (60) slidably positioned inside the cylindrical guide portion, for opening the valve device (40) under a sudden impact to a vehicle, the slider (60) having a jaw (61) formed at the upper end portion thereof; a slider spring (57) for elastically biasing the slider; a latch portion installed at the upper portion of the housing, for locking the jaw of the slider to prevent the slider from moving forward; an inertial body (81) installed inside the cylindrical guide portion coaxially with the slider, for moving forward by its inertia under the impact to the vehicle; a releasing lever (85) pivotally installed to the housing (10), for releasing the locked latch portion to the jaw (61) of the slider according to the inertial movement of the inertial body; and a means for transferring the inertial movement of the inertial body to the releasing lever (85) to pivot it. The transferring means includes a ball-containing hole (86) formed across the cylindrical portion (12), the ball containing hole (86) communicating with the cylindrical guide portion (12) at one end thereof and opening toward the releasing lever (85) at the other end thereof, and a releasing ball (83) contained inside the ball-containing hole (86) for transferring the inertial movement of the inertial body (81) to the releasing lever (85). According to the above air bag triggering device, since the inertial body (81) is disposed coaxially with the slider (60) and the valve device (40), the installation space for the inertial body can be decreased. |
