PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To correctly detect a boundary of a data recorded area and a writable area by judging as the boundary a block which becomes a read error and is a point of an integral multiple of a specific packet length from a head of data. SOLUTION: In the case of a fix packet where a track # (m) has a packet size = x, each packet is formed of (7+x) blocks, that is, (x) user data blocks and seven other blocks (link blocks, run-in block, run-out block). In other words, a next block (=link block to be a boundary) to a data end Q of the track #(m) is located at a position of an integral multiple of a packet length (7+x) from a track head P at all times. Therefore, even if a CRC error is brought about to blocks other than the link block of the boundary, the boundary can be correctly judged.
