PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic packing apparatus which does not require a large installation area and which is also capable of reducing the equipment cost to a relatively low level, on the premise that the packing of a packaged bag is automatically performed. SOLUTION: The automatic packing apparatus for automatically performing the binding of a packaged bag S filled with tea leaves in the way of longitudinal winding and lateral winding by using a band binding unit 2, which binds the packaged bag S with bands 2B, employs one band binding unit 2 only. The apparatus is constituted of a conveying means A for conveying the packaged bag S to the band binding unit 2, a longitudinal winding binding position changing means B for rotating the packaged bag S so that the packaged bag S is bound with several bands 2B in such a manner that they intersect radially with one another on upper and lower end faces of the packaged bag S, a longitudinal and lateral binding posture changing means C for performing a direction change from the direction of a longitudinal winding binding posture to the direction of a lateral winding binding posture by rotating the packaged bag S, and a lateral winding binding position changing means D for moving the packaged bag S to change the binding position thereof so that the lateral winding binding is performed with several bands 2B.
