A liquid-crystal composition containing at least one of optically active compounds respectively represented by the following formulae (1) to (4); and a liquid-crystal electrooptic element having excellent display quality. In the formulae, C<*> is asymmetric carbon and the meanings of the symbols are as shown in the description.
