PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer which can relieve the load of a control part and raise the reception speed of picture data and to provide a picture data processing method. SOLUTION: When all of at least one task other than a data reception task T2 for managing the processing of the task in a main task T4 completes the processing or enters into an idle state, while the data reception task T2 is receiving image data transmitted from a host 3 side in the control part 2 of the printer 1, reception of the image data in the data reception task T2 which has started the reception of image data is terminated. Reception of remaining picture data is continued in the main task T4, so that the whole picture data are received, and the number of the tasks processed in multitasks in the control part 2 is reduced.
