PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wide-band ASE light source whose excitation light intensity is small, whose output (efficiency) is high and which is small and low-cost. SOLUTION: The wide-band ASE light source is constituted in such a way that an excitation light source 3 is connected to one end of an erbium-doped optical fiber(EDF) 5, that an output terminal 1 is connected via an optical isolator 2 and that a reflector 6 is connected to the other end. Alternatively, the ASE light source is constituted in such a way that the reflector 6 is connected to the light source 3. The ASE light source is realized in such a way that, in high erbium concentration EDF, an EDF length which is converted into a second optical wavelength band is set when ASE light which is generated at one end and comprises a first optical wavelength band is propagated to the other end and that the excitation light intensity is optimized. |
