PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a discharge lamp lighting device capable of performing light dimming by performing a frequency control for a half-bridge shaped inverter by a simple circuit constitution and a lighting system using the device. SOLUTION: This device is provided with a continuity control means CC for connecting first and second switching means Q1 and Q2 for generating high frequency voltage in series by alternately performing switchings between DC output ends of a rectifying DC power source RDC connecting AC input ends to input terminals a and b, impressing high frequency voltage to a load circuit LC which is provided with resonance impedance L2 and resonance capacitance C9 and is connected with a discharge lamp DL and effectively controls drive resonance capacitance of a condenser C11 of a drive circuit DC including a feedback circuit FBC and a drive resonance circuit DRC, a light dimming signal generation circuit DSG operating by obtaining power supply from the DC output ends of the rectifying DC power source RDC and forming a light dimming signal and a boot strap circuit BS interposing between the light dimming signal generation circuit DSG and the continuity control means CC and controlling continuity of the continuity control means CC according to the light dimming signal.
