PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a free stopper device without reducing braking force even if dust-dirt is deposited on a sliding surface touching on an elastic locking member. SOLUTION: This free stopper device 1 has a sliding door 10 arranged in the doorway, and a traveling rail 5 for suspending the sliding door 10 by placing a traveling wheel 11 installed in an upper part of the sliding door 10; and stops the sliding door 10 in an optional position. The free stopper device has the elastic locking member 2 for journaling the base end side movable together with the sliding door 10 by a rotary shaft 2a, and the rail 5 for forming the sliding surface for slidingly contacting with the loose end of the elastic locking member 2 from a side surface or an under surface; and is provided with a regulating member 3 for regulating front-rear parts of a rotary range of the elastic locking member 2 with the axis of the rotary shaft 2a as the center.
