<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus whose maintenance cost is reduced and which forms an excellent image by determining the accurate life of a conductive member and suitably replacing the conductive member. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus is provided with a reference roller 86, as a reference conductive member, which has the physical properties same as a transfer roller 27 and is disposed in the same environment as the transfer roller 27.
