摘要 A method and an apparatus for generating a disparity map from a stereo image, a stereo matching method therefor, and an apparatus therefor are provided to embody a stereo matching simply about the stereo image. The first and the second edge extractors(100,102) extract respective edge images from images forming a stereo image. An edge stereo matcher(104) searches an edge mask matched with an edge shape in a window about a reference edge pixel among edge masks designated to correspond to predetermined edge shapes capable of being indicated in the window of a uniform size centering around the reference edge pixel among edge pixels of the reference edge image among the edge images. The edge stereo matcher(104) searches an edge pixel located in the center of a window having an edge shape matched with the searched edge mask among edge pixels of a search edge image among the edge images as a correspondence edge pixel corresponding to a corresponding point for the reference edge pixel. The reference edge pixel is an edge pixel for currently searching the correspondence edge pixel in the search edge image among the edge pixels of the reference edge image.
