Cathodes and lithium batteries employing the same are provided. According to one embodiment, a cathode can minimize reductions in initial irreversible capacity, thereby improving electrode characteristics. In one embodiment, a cathode includes a cathode active material comprising a transition metal oxide and a complex compound represented by the formula xLi<SUB>2</SUB>MO<SUB>3</SUB>-(1-x)LiMeO<SUB>2</SUB>, where 0<x<=0.8, and M and Me are each independently a metal ion.
