摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hologram optical device having a structure formed by alternately piling up an anisotropic region and an isotropic region using a liquid crystal and a high molecular material, wherein the selection of the liquid crystal, the combination of various monomers, the combination of a photo-polymerization initiator and a dyestuff or the blending ratio of the various material are specified and optimized to improve diffraction efficiency, to increase the polarization separation degree, to mitigate contraction stress associated with the photo-polymerization of the material and to prevent the degradation of the material due to heat and light. <P>SOLUTION: The polarization selecting hologram optical device is formed by forming a layer from a mixture comprising at least one kind of a photo-polymerizable monomer having one or more functional groups and the liquid crystal to have a prescribed thickness between a pair of optical substrates 1, 2 and holographic-exposing the layer.
