PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a soot purifying device for a diesel engine capable of enlarging the self-reproduction domain of a particulate filter.

SOLUTION: The soot purifying device for a diesel engine 20 comprises either one or both of an oxidation catalyst 4 and a particulate filter 1 in the inside. Without uniformizing the catalyst density distribution in the cross-sectional view of the oxidation catalyst 4 or the particulate filter 1, the catalyst density distribution in the central portion is higher than that in the outer peripheral portion.
