PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a portable instrument and a firmware management program that can maintain the version of firmware of a device to be the latest version even when communication for checking the version of the firmware cannot be executed between the device and a firmware management system.SOLUTION: A portable instrument acquires the latest version of firmware from a firmware management system managing the firmware (S142), acquires the current version of firmware of an image forming apparatus from the image forming apparatus by short-range communication (S141), and determines whether the firmware of the image forming apparatus includes a version newer than the current version on the basis of the latest version acquired in S142 and the current version acquired in S141 (S143).SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 5
