PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projector having a high contrast ratio and capable of suppressing an irregular color, with a simple structure and at an economical price.SOLUTION: A projector of this invention includes: a light source; an illumination optical system having a light-shielding mechanism capable of partially light-shielding light flux from a light source; and an optical modulator to be irradiated by illumination light from the illumination optical system. The light-shielding mechanism includes a pair of light-shielding plate parts rotatable around a predetermined rotational axis to change a size of a light-shielding region. The pair of light-shielding plate parts are arranged such that respective tips thereof overlap in a direction along an optical axis of the illumination optical system when reaching a maximum light-shielding position. |
