<p>Shell is modified to increase its piercing potential by subdividing the piercing core which has a thick head and a conically divergent blind bore into three sections of which the front section is hardened to 65 HRC and the intermediate section is hardened in a progressively decreasing manner from 65 to 35 HRC, whereby the splinter formation of the disintegratable core following piercing of the armour is controlled by the variation of the hardness characteristic.</p> |
