An appts. for the automatic prodn. of fodder for domestic (farm) animals from seeds or seedlings consists of a number of horizontal trays, all mounted to travel around a closed path in a frame or support, typically a closed track lying in a vertical plane. Each tray carries a vessel for the seeds and above the position of each tray there is a sprinkler for irrigation. These sprinklers can travel parallel to the trays (i.e., horizontally) throughout their width to sprinkle their entire surface. Pref. all the trays are so mounted on the track system that they always remain horizontal. Pref. also, the entire equipment is housed beneath a cover or roof. Used for modern intensive culture of oats or other crops for fodder, esp. for animals bred under intensified industrialised conditions. The appts. permits such intensive cultivation with a minimum of manual intervention and handling. |
