<p>A water insoluble, physiologically harmless compsn. comprises boiled and compact dried starch (I). (I) may opt. contain a polyvalent aliphatic alcohol e.g. glycerol or sorbitol to improve elasticity and flexibility and organic flavourants to improve strength and water insolubility. (I) is prepd. by boiling starch and drying the paste as a continuous mass e.g. in the form of a block or a film. (I) is esp. maize starch. (I) may be used to form water insoluble, swellable coatings on everyday articles or on food and medicine, as microcapsules, containers and carriers for e.g. enzymes, vitamins, medicines.</p> |
