NEW MATERIAL:A depsipeptide antibiotic neoviridogrisein-MP shown by the formulaI. USE:An antibacterial agent. Having strong antibacterial action on bacteria belonging to the genus Staphylococcus including Stapylococcus aureus and its resistant bacteria, and Diplococcus pneumoniae, e.g., Streptococcus pneumoniae, etc. PROCESS:A bacterium belonging to the genus Streptococcus, capable of producing viridogrisein or neoviridogrisein[e.g., Streptomuces sp. p 8648 ATCC 31289 (FERM- P 3562)]is inoculated into a nutritive medium consisting of a carbon source, a nitrogen source, inorganic salt, and 4-methylproline or a 4-methylproline-containing substance and cultivated aerobically at 20-33 deg.C in a pH of 5.5-8.0. A combination of an extraction from the culture with an organic solvent, adsorption and desorption with active carbon, etc., gel filtration, adsorption chromatography, etc. is operated, to isolate the desired compound shown by the formulaI. |
