Ion exchange material regeneration appts. consists of a vertical cylindrical container (1) for holding the material (3) and a liq. (6), anode (2) and cathode (4) electrodes for applying a d.c. field and an electrode (7) for superimposing a.c. or pulsed d.c. on the d.c. field, the novelty being that the latter electrode (7) is an annular electrode pref. in the form of a strip adjacent the container inner wall. USE/ADVANTAGE - The appts. is used e.g. to strip cations such as Ca and Mg ions or anions such as sulphate, carbonate, chloride or nitrate ions from water purifying ion exchangers. It has a simple construction and high efficiency.
