The method of detecting irregular states in the power generated by an engine involves specifying a power value which would normally be generated based at least on the engine's revolution rate and air induction value. The instantaneous power value is computed from the power value developed by the drive shafts of the force transfer sytem. The two values are compared to detect an abnormal state in the power developed by the engine. ADVANTAGE - Enables abnormalities in power developed by engine to be determined from instantaneous power conditions.
