Cutting hard-setting block with wire - by cutting when hardening or curing stage is advanced enough to take loads but soft enough for quick cutting

Profiled component is produced from a raw block by means of a cutting wire. Material contg. e.g. a thermosetting type of binder is used to make the raw block which is cut with the wire while it is in the process of curing and at a particular moment when the block is already stable a though still not completely cured/hardened. Pref. granules of e.g. ground scrap plastic materials, wood/sawdust, paper, sand, glass fibres etc. are used to make the raw material when they are mixed with a suitable hard-setting binder, whether hot or cold-acting, organic or water/cement mixt. Suitable container is filled with this mix and consolidated, vibrated or pressed and is heated if the binder requires. As soon as the mixt. is firm enough to retain, its shape its mould is opened and the non block-shaped raw sheet is cut to the desired profile with a wire. As it has not yet fully cured it is easier to cut than when fully cured. ADVANTAGE - Method enables a wire-cut process to be carried out with materials which are harder and therefore capable of taking heavier loads than hitherto whilst still not losing any of the advantages of the procedure.
