The door stop consists of a bracket (10) fixed to the vehicle bodywork and a bar (20) which is pivoted at one end (21) to the bracket, while its other end (22) fits into a housing inside the door containing friction elements or rollers which press against the bar and control its positions. The bracket has a pivot pin (30) to engage with a hole (23) in the bar. The stop incorporates a pre-tensioned spring (40) which applies an effort holding the bar and pin together to eliminate radial clearances between them and provide noiseless operation. The spring can be in the form of a steel ring on the pin or a vane mounted on the bracket and interacting with the surface of the bar.
