<p>A washing machine is disclosed and includes a rotatably mounted drum for receiving a load of laundry having a pair of end panels (31,32) separated by a tubular side panel (33), means (33b) for agitating the laundry during rotation of the drum (30) provided in the side panel (33) and counterbalance means (52a,52b) provided on at least one end panel (31,32) arranged to move in a channel (51a,51b) during rotation of the drum (30) towards a counterbalancing position in response to an imbalance in a load in the drum (30).
