PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a pearl, capable of standing a severe change of environment, raising a mother shellfish of Pinctada martensii of a new breed tough in terms of constitution and producing a high-quality pearl. SOLUTION: A natural Pinctada martensii living at Namakoike of Kamikosiki island in the Kagosima Prefecture is artificially hybridized with a Pinctada martensii of conventional breed to raise a mother shellfish of Pinctada martensii of new breed and a pearl forming nucleus is inserted into the mother shellfish to produce a pearl.
