PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a negative type image recording material which suppresses ablation due to laser light in recording, ensures high strength of a formed image area and forms a planographic printing plate of superior printing resistance. SOLUTION: The image recording material contains (A) a high molecular compound which is insoluble in water, soluble in an aqueous alkali solution and has at least one group of general formula (1) or (2) and at least one group or the general formula NH-Y- (3) or -Z-NH-R (4) in a side chain, (B) a photothermal converting agent and (C) an onium salt compound, which generates a radical when exposed to a light of wavelength, which can be absorbed by (B) the photothermal converting agent. In the formulae (1) and (2), R1-R6 are each a monovalent organic group, and A and D are each O, S or the like, and in the formulae (3) and (4), Y and Z are each a divalent organic group with at least one of Y or Z being -CO- or -SO2. |
