PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an external wall structure which renders inconspicuous a joint portion between adjacent external wall plates, and exhibits continuous pattern in a design surface, and to provide the external wall plates. SOLUTION: The external wall structure 1 is constructed at least by transversely rabbeting the external wall plates 2 each having the pattern in the design surface 21. Each external wall plate 2 is formed by mixedly arranging upper tongues 26 and lower tongues 27 on each of right and left side portions 23 and 22. In the external wall plates 2 transversely adjacent to each other, the upper tongue 26 formed on the left side portion 22 of the external wall plate 2 on the right side is superposed on the corresponding lower tongue 27 formed on the right side portion 23 of the external wall plate 2 on the left side. On the other hand, the upper tongue 26 formed on the right side portion 23 of the external wall plate 2 on the left side is superposed on the corresponding lower tongue 27 formed on the left side portion 22 of the external wall plate 2 on the right side.
